Connecting Through Groups

Carrie Tynan

The Internet can provide many services to society. It is full of valuable information and resources. In addition to looking for information people can connect through chat rooms, instant messengers and message boards.  Email list services are very useful and convenient. Messages can be sent to your email individually or in a daily digest sent every week. Many groups offer the choice of visiting their message board or receiving emails. Yahoo and MSN have a wide of variety of groups from support to just friendship. I find them informative, supportive and just plain fun. Several are just newsletters sent to email boxes like Disability Grapevine at yahoo groups. This group's purpose is to keep the Disability community informed of issues concerning them that is in the news. Other groups provide a support group atmosphere for people to discuss every day stress with their disabilities or just to chat about life. MSN has an excellent group called Disabilities Meeting Place for people to visit and help one another. There are groups for people with specific needs like certain disabilities like hearing impaired. There are groups that focus in on sports, fitness, hobbies and entertainment. Take advantage of all usefulness the Internet has to offer explore new places.
