This article is a continuation of our feature story "Free Prescriptions" in the last issue of Reach Out. Millions of people are affected with hearing loss from mild to severe. Hearing aids are an invaluable item for those with hearing loss. Unfortunately they are rather expensive and not everyone can afford them. Most insurance plans generally do cover them, but it is usually very limited. Still other plans do not cover hearing aids at all. And many millions of people have no insurance coverage at all.

Reach Out has just learned of a program offered through the well known Hearing Aid manufacturer Starkey, called The Starkey Foundation. The Foundation offers free hearing aids for those without insurance coverage of hearing aids. There are a few qualifications such as income requirements, and either have no insurance or one that does not cover hearing aids. There is a small fee of $50 per hearing aid and a limit of 2 hearing aids every 3 years. You must also find a local hearing aid dealer willing to accept the program.

Starkey Laboratories, is the world's largest manufacturer of hearing aids. If you're familiar with Starkey you will know they are synonymous with quality.
